Liposuction, also called liposhaping or liposculpturing, is intended to remove stubborn fat accumulated in certain parts of the body, which cannot be burned despite diet and exercise. In this surgical aesthetic procedure, these areas are shaped by sucking the stubborn fat tissues out of the body through perforated cannulas and a vacuum system. Stubborn fat deposits in various parts of the body, such as the abdomen, back, legs, arms, jowls, buttocks and hips, are eliminated performing the liposuction procedure.
Liposuction should not be performed for weight loss and cellulite treatment. Liposuction alone is not adequate for the treatment of patients with excess and sagging skin.
Before liposuction, areas with excess fat are marked. Small incisions of 1 to 2 mm are made in the regions to be slimmed, and then a special liquid solution is injected through these incisions in order to reduce trauma and bleeding. After melted using various techniques, the excess fat in the region is sucked out with negative pressure through thin cannulas.
There are various liposuction techniques that can be used to reduce skin laxity and cellulite-like appearance after liposuction.
Liposuction techniques are as follows:
1- Classical Liposuction technique: In this technique, excess fat is melted mechanically and then it is vacuumed out through cannulas. In this surgical technique carries a higher risk of cellulite appearance and skin irregularity compared to other liposuction techniques.
2- Laser liposuction technique: In this technique, first the fat layer is broken down applying heat. Then the homogeneous fat is vacuumed out with the help of a cannula. The skin emptied is then heated and tightened with the laser technology GE again. This technique should be used by experienced surgeons who have been specialized in this field. This is because the fat is broken down using heat energy in the Laser Liposuction technique, so care must be taken not to burn the skin.
3- Vaser liposuction technique: In this technique, the fat layer is broken down using sound waves called ultrasound energy. Then the homogeneous fat is vacuumed out with the help of a cannula. The skin emptied is then tightened using vaser cannulas.
The patient is discharged after a 1-night hospital stay. The pain is usually minimal and can be easily relieved with painkillers. It is normal to observe bruising, swelling and edema in the surgical sited. It usually takes 2 months for the edema to subside, depending on the skin type of the patient. The patient should wear a corset for a period of 4 to 6 weeks after the operation. The patient can return to his or her social life after 1 week, and it is appropriate to start sports activities after 1 month.
In order to make the effect of the procedure permanent, the patient should follow the diet and exercise programs recommended to prevent weight gain. It should be remembered that this procedure does not prevent weight gain.
