What to Take Care of After Rhinoplasty

Taking care after nose surgery is very important. Rhinoplasty is a very commonly sought operation both for shape deformities and for breathing problems. Especially in recent years, there has been a growing demand in society for nose surgery. After intensive planning and analysis, the surgery stage is finally reached, but the period after the operation requires just as much care as the period before it. That is why there are some golden rules that those who undergo this operation should follow. So what are these rules?

The first 1–2 weeks after rhinoplasty are particularly important. During this time, the doctor's instructions must be followed to the letter. One of the most important issues is showering. Two days after surgery, you can shower with water that is not too hot, with your head tilted back. After 1 week you can shower normally. Another important issue is exercise. After rhinoplasty, it is best to stay away from strenuous, vigorous activities and sports that involve lifting weights. After 1 week you can start simpler exercise such as walking.

One week after rhinoplasty, when the splints are removed, you can return to normal life, but the most important thing is to stay careful at all times and protect the nose from possible knocks. For example, it is best to stay away from areas where children are playing ball. After rhinoplasty, the most important thing is to take the medicines recommended by the surgeon regularly. Nasal sprays and creams should be used for the period and at the frequency the surgeon specifies. Certain massage movements recommended by the doctor may also be done where the doctor considers them necessary.

It is very important to protect yourself from the sun, especially until the bruising and swelling have gone. A wide-brimmed hat makes it easy to protect the face from the sun. It is also best not to enter very hot environments such as a Turkish bath (hamam) or sauna for the first 3 months after rhinoplasty. Because the nose is taking shape after rhinoplasty, sunglasses or prescription glasses can be worn from the 3rd month at the earliest, and it is better to consult the surgeon and get approval before wearing them. In addition, you must attend regular check-ups and have the surgeon confirm that the process is progressing correctly. In this context, the check-ups at 1, 3 and 6 months and at 1 year should not be missed.

Although there are physical rules to follow after nose surgery, the situation is not actually limited to these. It is also very important that the person can protect themselves emotionally. The nose, the most striking feature of the face with a great impact on expression, undergoes a major change after aesthetic surgery. This may cause the person to feel like a stranger to themselves for a while. Especially in the early period, because of swelling and bruising, people who have had nose surgery are often not very pleased with the image they see in the mirror. For this reason, it is necessary not to look in the mirror too much, not to pay attention to the comments of those around you and, most importantly, to be patient.
